Car production fell by almost half in October

In October, 68,000 passenger cars were produced. In total, carmakers have produced almost 900,000 cars this year, which is four percent less than in the same period last year, which was the worst production since 2014. Since 2019, production has fallen by 24.5 percent.

“Under the weight of persistent unprecedented restrictions and production outages, the automotive industry is therefore urging the government to urgently approve the Temporary Antivirus Employment Support Scheme,” said the Automotive Industry Association’s press release.

“We consider the delays and uncertainty regarding the launch of the program to be difficult to understand, and they are exacerbating the current difficult situation of companies. A month ago, the government promised companies in the sector its assistance with partial wage compensation, and companies expected this help. Domestic companies are also at a disadvantage vis-à-vis their foreign competition, which can use comparable programs, such as active exchange rates in Germany or a continuing similar Antivirus program in Slovakia, ”adds Zdeněk Petzl, Executive Director of the Automotive Industry Association.

Hyundai, as the only carmaker operating in the Czech Republic, produced more cars than in the previous year, a total of 231,600 vehicles, ie 21.8 percent more than last year. In October, it reports a decrease of 8.8 percent.

So far, Škoda Auto has produced 547,174 vehicles this year, which is 11 percent less than last year. In October, however, it had a decrease of up to 59.2 percent.

Toyota has a 8.5 percent drop in production this year (it produced a total of 121,000 vehicles), and a 49 percent drop in October.

The automotive industry association also said that the production of electric cars is growing. Over 100,000 of them have been produced so far in 2021.
