Car Owners in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to Benefit from Favorable Car Insurance Ratings in 2024

Schwerin (dpa / mv) – Car owners in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can often look forward to favorable ratings in car insurance in 2024. “In eleven of the twelve registration districts and for almost 98 percent of the insured in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the lowest regional classes 1 to 3 continue to apply,” reported the General Association of the German Insurance Industry (GDV) on Thursday. “Only in Wismar, as in the previous year, is the regional class 5.”

In comprehensive insurance, too, the results for the north-east are mostly positive: “In Greifswald, Stralsund, Schwerin and Ludwigslust-Parchim, drivers benefit from better regional classes, only in the Mecklenburg Lake District will there be a higher classification in the future.”

“Basically, the better the classification in the regional class, the cheaper it affects the insurance premium,” said GDV General Manager Jörg Asmussen. However, no statement can be made about the development of the entire motor vehicle insurance premium via a change in the regional class.

The regional classes reflect the damage balance of the 412 German registration districts and are calculated once a year by the GDV. The decisive factor here is not the place of the accident, but the place of residence of the vehicle owner. Insurance companies can now use the regional statistics for new contracts and from the next insurance year for existing contracts.

Basically, regional classes in big cities tend to be higher than in rural areas, since more accidents happen due to the higher traffic density – for example, Berlin drivers have the worst damage balance in motor vehicle liability insurance nationwide.
