Although built on the same platform as the XC40 and sharing both technology and interior, the Volvo C40 is a stand-alone model.
“The Swedes have been quite negative about coupe crossovers so far. There is no XC60 Sportback or anything like that. That’s why the C40 has two premieres in one. This is the first Volvo available only electric, and it is the first CC from this manufacturer. Just like the XC40 Recharge, everything is simple. Charging socket on one side only, one engine on each axle, 408 hp and frunk in front, ”says Normunds Avotiņš.
The technical characteristics of the electric car are similar to the most powerful electric XC40, but Volvo likes to emphasize that the C40 is as fast as the Polestar 2, which is rarely seen today.
“It simply came to our notice then. There are different headlights in the front and this middle part is also new, so it looks more appropriate.
Here, too, everything is super simple. No start buttons at all. As we board, the car is ready to go. Let’s fasten and release!
At first it seems unusual and insecure that nothing needs to be done when you start driving. You get used to it so much that when you get into another car it feels like you have to press a button and turn the key ?! Why?”
Since we have two electric motors in a relatively small crossover, the acceleration in a straight line is out of the ordinary – 4.7 seconds to a hundred.
“Last time we drove an electric Volvo in the winter. The reach was as it was. 200 km with a tail and everything. Now another thing – 360 km. Not a record, but here’s what. We’ve pretty much consumed the battery but the reach is 340km and I know we’ve driven more. “
The Volvo C40 is powered by a 78 kWh battery, but reaches longer with less wind resistance. Most of all, it is gratifying that Volvo has chosen a different suspension for the crossover from the donor. Driving has become a bit more attractive, and the electric Swede almost or herself wants to drive on rocks.
“Considering that we are driving a fake SUV with two engines and a larger ground clearance, we have to drive off the asphalt. The Volvo Xc40 Recharge is an all-season tire, it’s a normal summer. ”
The C40 has no driving mode or any steering wheel switch – the only option is to drive with one pedal or without applying the brakes.
“It simply came to our notice then. Sports solutions, lamps like no other, nicely integrated stop signal. The car looks very good. However, we know that the beveled body has compromises in the cabin. Let’s see what it’s like to sit in the back. No miracles here. Be careful when getting on your head. Inside a few cm above the head remains. The seat back is sloping than the XC40, right, isn’t it? ”
The ceiling height of the C40 is reduced by a panoramic roof, which is standard in the latest coupe crossover fashion. I wonder if the C40 has little left in the trunk?
“That is interesting. I was absolutely convinced that the boot of the C40 is smaller than the XC40. In fact, the trunk is longer or deeper here. ”
With the C40 Recharge, the options are small. It has only two configurations – good and very good. The interior decoration is reminiscent of Sweden’s rugged landscape.

Verdict
This is a case where the car should not be judged on the basis of pictures and technical data. Because then it turns out that the electric C40 and XC40 are exactly the same. However, this Volvo not only looks but also drives differently. Best of all, unlike its competitors, the CC bodywork doesn’t cost 5,000 more than usual. The C40 is only about a thousand more expensive.
