Tiguan eHybrid is a plug-in type. The technical performance is typical for this type of car. The petrol turbo engine is combined with an electric motor, but the traction battery allows up to 50 km. It doesn’t have a fast charge, but it only takes a few hours to recharge the battery from the AC charger. Rechargeable hybrids are usually only of interest to fleets, as reduced CO2 emissions allow at least paper rolling to be made “greener”. For the Tiguan eHybrid, this figure is 41 g per km, half less than a conventional self-charging hybrid. But unlike most plug in crossovers, the Volkswagen model has another benefit.
“We are used to the fact that a plug-in hybrid is the most expensive version of the model. As soon as we find out that there is a staple, we think that the car is at the right end of the price list. Tiguan eHybrid is not. The two possible configurations are Life and and R-Line, and are located in the middle of the price list. Depending on the configuration, the E hybrid costs 33,800 to 35,900, which is not a small amount, but it is R Line, ”says Normunds Avotiņš.
As a result, the Tiguan hybrid costs less than an equally powerful petrol model with all-wheel drive. The eHybrid 245 horsepower gets on the front wheels, and here’s why.
“Now let’s talk about the shadow sides of electrification. When we open the trunk, we see that it is also the same as the usual Tiguan. However, there is one hook. Under the hood we see a strange object. It turns out that the fuel tank is in the trunk, because the battery is in the previous place. ”
So we can forget about all-wheel drive, while we can’t forget about unusual weighting.
“The Tiguan hybrid has a weird special effect. Accelerating rapidly, if the road is not completely straight, due to a different weight in front, as if rising in the air, you can feel that the wheels are relieved and it seems that the car is starting to “drag” on the road a bit, “adds Avotiņš.
Many believe that plug in hybrids cease to be hybrids as soon as the battery is empty. It’s not. eHybrid strives for every opportunity to use an electric traction.
In the city, the eHybrid is particularly economical, as it is powered by a lot of electricity. The math is simple. While the battery is full, the eHybrid is twice as economical as the most economical self-charging hybrid – 1.8 l per 100 km. When the battery is empty, on the other hand, fuel consumption is twice as high as for a conventional hybrid. But with a full beacon, the eHybrid can still cover 800 kilometers. Unless we let go of the hidden personality of the Volkswagen plug-in.
“But let’s not forget that the Volkswagenb plug-in hybrids were called GTE from the very beginning. Almost GTI with electricity only. And Tiguan is no exception. We press the GTE button, the pedal on the floor and – smell my electric smoke! ”
Acceleration to a hundred is 7.5 seconds. It’s nothing that the TSI engine is old, 1.4 liters and the DSG gearbox has only six speeds. However, the 85-kilowatt electric motor is mounted directly in the box and can operate alone up to 130 km / h.
Conclusions
Keep in mind that it makes sense to buy such a car only if it can be constantly charged. When driving without electricity, the profitability decreases. On the other hand, this car also runs on gasoline alone is quite far. If there is no way to charge, forget about the box, drive on gasoline and it will be cool.
