And, as you know, there are two types of Formentors – the Formentor VZ with a heavy-duty turbocharged engine, all-wheel drive and serious accessories, or the equally good-looking but much more accessible Cupra Formentor with front-wheel drive and a conventional 1.5 TSI engine.
But now we have another Formentor – and it’s semi-electric!
The Cupra Formentor e Hybrid is a rechargeable hybrid car. Technically, it is similar to the Seat Leon e-Hybrid, Volkswagen Golf GTE and Škoda Octavia rechargeable hybrids. 150 hp petrol turbo, 116 hp electric motor plus six-speed DSG gearbox.
“Yes, the technical part is familiar to us, but there will be no need to repeat it. 1.4 liter TSI engine with electric motor. 12.8 kWh battery. It can be charged from a normal socket in 5 to 7 hours. So completely calm at night, ”says Normunds Avotiņš.
As the Fomentor hybrid cannot be charged from fast chargers, it is clear that it is intended for charging at home or from medium-powered devices such as those found at IKEA. Connecting a car to a staple at home is definitely motivated by autonomous electric heating, which is only possible for a hybrid. In winter, it is an invaluable convenience.
“We have seen Formentor in all its colors, but not yet. This is Blue Petrol Matt. Dark blue matte color. It’s quite expensive, but see how it fits. ”
And it turns out that Cupra has also made seat covers tailored to Formentor.
“Hey, look at the salon! I had never seen such a thing. It’s no longer Volkswagen’s level, it’s already like a British premium. And it goes so well with copper-colored details. ”
Although the 245bhp hybrid is also considered a VZ version, the start button is not on the steering wheel, but in the middle of the console – like the civilian Formentor.
“For information only – in fact, the Cupra Formentor even has 2 rechargeable hybrids. One with 204 hp one like this with 245. We will probably only be offered the most powerful version. Many people don’t know it, but the Cupra Formentor in Germany and elsewhere is even available in diesel. ”
Acceleration is fast, but not fiery – 7 seconds to a hundred. Although the hybrid’s traction is only the front wheels, it is 100 kg heavier than the top model due to the battery and other components.
“Even though the car is focused on comfort, it is a spark at all times. One example. We drive in Comfort mode and everything is fine. We drive on petrol and electricity. Acceleration like a 245 hp machine with a small turbo. But press Sport and it’s clear it’s working mode! ”
The presence of the Cupra regime definitively confirms that electrification does not damage the brand’s sporting genes.
“Well, I don’t know how to design a car with a background of only 33 g per km, the engineers had thought of this :)”
While self-charging hybrids often cost as much as comparable conventional internal combustion engine cars, rechargeable hybrids are unfortunately significantly more expensive.
“Who needs such a car? It is more environmentally friendly and eventually a purse. I know people who know how to drive plug-in hybrids in just 2 or 3 months. ”
To get it ready, the hybrid needs to be charged every day, as it can cover up to 50 kilometers with electricity alone.
“Cupra Formentor is a special car in general. In addition, each Formentor with a different engine has a personality. As already mentioned, the technique is well known. Cupra has given the car its character. As everything is on the verge of electrification, but Formentor will probably not become an electric car for the time being, this model may be a big topic in the coming years. ”
Given that the co-payment available for electric cars from 2022 onwards will be much juicier than for chargeable hybrids, the logical question is, why not take the electric Cupra Born right away? On the spot, however, the fuel tank increases both reach and independence from the outlet.
“You may have noticed that the Formentor hybrid has Finnish numbers. The car has been issued to our dealer Autobrava by the importer. The car will not go on sale until 2022, but it is very soon. ”
