There is no doubt about one thing: if black smoke comes out of the car muffler and we witness this scene…something wrong. However, we need to understand exactly what could have happened and the reasons can be different. Not all alarming, fortunately for us, despite this phenomenon clearly leaps to the eye.
Black smoke certainly has a very frequent cause in the operating mechanisms of vehicles, namely the poor fuel mixing. But this is precisely the phenomenon to be analyzed correctly, because in turn it is due to a number of factors.
First of all, it will be necessary to understand the starting point: this anomalous spill reaches a cold or hot engine? This simple question could lead to very important exclusionary answers. In the first case, i.e. cold engine, the black smoke is almost certainly caused by problems with the air valves or from incorrect settings in the fuel injection system, that as soon as the vehicle is started, it immediately creates damage.
Obviously, a diagnosis by the experts of the trade (mechanics, workshop workers) will be essential, but one of the first steps to solve the problem could be acleaning action or change of the particle filter diesel, which could be clogged.

If the muffler emits black smoke, on the other hand, when the engine is hot, we should have some car components checked in particular. First: the injectorsif too dirty, they could create problems and represent the origin of the leak. Second: a check will also have to be done on the air filterwhich may be full of dust. Impurities naturally affect the amount of burnable air in the combustion chamber.
As with the injectors, this potential problem can also be managed without spending a fortune, but with a maintenance and/or replacement of elements in question. A third verification could also concern the throttle: to check it, you will first need to remove the air filter going, in fact, to exclusion. This component is located in the center of the carburettor body and must ensure the right balance between fuel and air. Black smoke is just such a frequent cause of malfunction of this valve.
Finally, a fourth, always non-alarming problem concerns i injection sensors, which could be defective without affecting bad combustion. The workshop will also have to consider this. When to worry, then? In exactly the only case where the smoke color will not be black, but white (possible ingress of water into the flue gas) o sky blue (worse yet, oil in the combustion chamber).
