At least 22 people died after a the van fell into a ravine deep in the region Pakistan southwest part. Miraculously, a 13-year-old boy became the sole survivor of the accident this fatal.
As reported AFPWednesday (06/08/2022), Pakistan is known to have a dire record for fatal road and rail accidents due to poor roads, poorly maintained vehicles and reckless driving.
In this accident that occurred in Qila Saifullah district, Balochistan Province, the van driver was reported to be driving at high speed.
“The driver was speeding and hit a protective wall at a bend in the road, then fell hundreds of feet into a ravine,” a senior local official, Muhammad Qasim, said in a statement.
Four children aged 3-9 years were included in the death toll in this accident.
The only survivor was a 13-year-old boy. The boy was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
It was not explained further how the 13-year-old boy survived.
An official from the Balochistan Province disaster management authority, Muhammad Younus, confirmed this incident and the details provided.
