According to comparator Assurland, the region is well placed on auto insurance prices.
By analyzing the data of 413,000 quotes recorded on its site, the comparator Assurland.com conducted a study on auto insurance prices in 2020. As reported The Parisian, the results indicate that the average amount reached 611 € nationwide. This premium is down slightly because in 2018 it was necessary to pay around € 7 more.
However, these prices hide great disparities. The prices are, in fact, very variable according to the place of residence and the age of the driver. Occitanie is below the national average, with € 572 spent on insuring its vehicle. This is significantly less than in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (€ 664), in Ile-de-France (€ 690) or in Corsica (€ 732).
In these regions, insurers consider that “thefts and vandalism are more frequent and the number of secure garages fewer than elsewhere”, comment The Parisian.
Conversely, it is in Brittany that insurers offer the best rates. Policyholders spend an average of € 508 to cover damage related to their vehicle. Other regions offer slightly more attractive prices than in Occitanie. The car insurance premium is € 537 in New Aquitaine, € 541 in Pays de la Loire, € 559 in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté and finally € 569 in Normandy.
€ 451 for a Dacia, € 1,021 for a Tesla
Other criteria come into play in determining the amount of the insurance premium. Thus, it is better to be in the 66 and 75 age group than in the under 25 age group. They have to pay € 1,021 per year, on average, to insure their vehicle. The model of the car is also important. Owners of a Tesla (€ 1,021) or a BMW (€ 752) will pay more than those who own a Dacia (€ 451) or Suzuki (€ 523).
