Car incentives: the new move by the government

According to what emerges from an amendment to the Budget Law approved by the Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, it seems that electric cars will be subject to new incentives offered to citizens, another move to raise the auto sector, severely affected by the crisis.

We know it well, it is one of the sectors that in this 2020 the situation is suffering a lot of “economic blockade” caused by the Coronavirus epidemic, which gives us no respite. We saw the worst months, at the beginning of the year, with a drop in sales never seen before. Despite the brief summer recovery, the automotive sector continues to suffer, we also read what they are the forecasts for this 2020, thanks to an ANFIA research.

The Honorable Giuseppe Chiazzese, of the 5 Star Movement, has decided to want incentivize further the purchase of alternative traction vehicles, with tax cuts and deductions that could reduce the list prices of electric cars by 50%.

The amendment introduces a new paragraph to art. 13 of the 2021 Finance Act, the proposal is entitled “Tax deductions for the purchase of vehicles powered by electricity” and provides that those who purchase a full electric car (from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2023) will benefit from a tax deduction equal to 50% of the list price, to be used in the tax return phase in the following five years. The bonus will be divided into five equal annual installments. The tax credit may also be transferred to the concessionaire or to a third party, such as banks or financial institutions.

Recall that this new form of incentive it will not replace the existing eco-bonus, but the two measures cannot be combined. For this each user will decide which bonus to choose. There are limits for requesting the incentive: first of all the car must be 100% electric (no hybrid or other) and the list price must not exceed 40.000 euro, the buyer must also have an ISEE lower than 45,000 euros per year. Finally, those who buy and benefit from the bonus must scrape a car in their possession for at least one year, of Euro 1, 2, 3 or 4 class for category M, and 1, 2 or 3 for category L vehicles.

There is a sore point, in fact, the trade associations of the car dealerships complain unequal treatment between electric and hybrid cars and traditional cars; this new eco-bonus could be a new blow to a sector that has been in crisis for too long.
