Driver turns himself in to police after wheelchair accident

A car collided with a wheelchair user in District 8 on Monday evening. The person was slightly injured. The person behind the wheel then fled the scene. After the Zurich city police reported the incident, the suspected driver reported the accident to the police.

The accident happened at the VBZ stop Balgrist in Zurich.

A car was driving out of town on Forchstrasse in Zurich’s 8th district on Monday shortly before 9:45 p.m. At the “Balgrist” tram stop, the vehicle collided with a wheelchair user who was crossing Forchstrasse on the pedestrian crossing. The 23-year-old fell and suffered minor injuries. This was reported by the Zurich city police on Tuesday based on initial findings.

The Zurich Protection & Rescue paramedics took the man to hospital. The wheelchair was damaged by the impact. According to the police, the driver of the car drove on without caring for the injured man.

The driver suspected of being involved in the accident turned himself in to the police on Tuesday morning. Further investigations are ongoing.
