Car fire in a freeway enclosure on the A3 near Goldbach

At around 11:30 p.m., the Mercedes driver was driving on the autobahn in the direction of Würzburg when he noticed flames coming from the engine compartment just before the Goldbach junction. He was able to stop the S-Class at the edge of the road and get to safety before the fire spread to the interior.

The tunnel was automatically blocked in both directions by the fire alarm system.

When the first emergency services arrived, the car was already ablaze and caused massive smoke in the tunnel tube. The fire brigade quickly brought the fire under control and put it out.

Annoying for the driver: He had bought the Mercedes just a few hours earlier as a used car for 18,000 euros and was on the transfer journey.

A pizza delivery customer had to look for an alternative dinner. The delivery vehicle was stuck in traffic and had no chance to deliver the ordered pizzas. But one person’s sorrow is another’s joy: after consultation with his customer, the driver donated the pizzas, which he would otherwise have had to dispose of, to the firefighters on duty.

The fire brigades Goldbach, Hösbach, Waldaschaff and Aschaffenburg were in the extinguishing operation under the direction of Jürgen Walter from the Goldbach fire brigade with 35 forces in action.

While the lane to Frankfurt was reopened to traffic ahead of time, the motorway in the direction of Würzburg had to remain closed until the rescue and clean-up work had been completed.
