Two people lost their lives after a car swerved off the Henry Hudson Parkway early Monday morning and ended up against the Amtrak train tracks just below the George Washington Bridge.
The first reports of the crash, at approximately 178th Street and the south side of the avenue, came in around 2:45 a.m. Monday.
New York City Police said the car in question appeared to have gone off the road and onto the train tracks. Police confirmed two deaths, the driver and the passenger. One died in the car, the other got out of the car and was found nearby.
The cause of the incident is unknown.
Telemundo 47’s helicopter was at the scene of the incident, which was well below the road and in an area that was difficult to access. Amtrak warned of travel delays between New York City and Albany due to the accident.
The highway Henry Hudson southbound was partially closed, including lower level exit ramps coming in from the bridge.
