The sinkhole was created a few weeks ago near Tracy, a town in California. The region was hit by a stormcausing part of the road to disappear.
Large concrete blocks
Police set up a diversion and blocked the road with concrete blocks to keep drivers from the gaping hole. “It takes a lot of effort to drive around it,” a police spokeswoman told the British newspaper The Guardian. There are also many warning signs, as can be seen on images from the police.
Road signs
Yet a motorist drove into the hole two weeks ago. And last weekend there was another driver who drove on. ‘Unimaginable’, says the police, who state that the signs warn ‘clearly and visibly’ of the danger.
“We can’t leave a police officer at the cordon day and night to make sure no one drives into this sinkhole,” said the spokeswoman.
