In Berlin, a car drove into the Brandenburger Tor at high speed. The driver of the car was killed. There are no other victims. The accident happened around 11:30 p.m.
Firefighters found the driver’s body inside the heavily damaged car. He was the only occupant. It is still unclear how the accident happened or whether it was intentional.
The black passenger car came to a stop between two of the six columns of the famous monument. Black stripes can be seen on the pillars and the stonework is slightly damaged. The Brandenburger Tor was built between 1788 and 1791 and is the only remaining city gate of the German capital.
