NEW YORK — A car crash was fatal after two people succumbed to their injuries in a crash that injured a total of seven people in Brooklyn on Monday.
The crash took place at approximately 12:49 p.m. near the intersection of 64th Street and 18th Avenue in the Bensonhurst section of the county.
The two who died were transported in critical condition to Maimonides Hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries. Two others with serious but non-life-threatening injuries were also taken there, along with another with minor injuries.
The two remaining victims were transported to Lutheran Hospital with minor injuries.
The accident mainly involved witnesses from a white car and police said it was seen speeding, weaving before its driver ran a red light at the intersection.
Authorities said the driver slammed directly into the side of a black car moving through the intersection. The driver of the black car, as well as a pedestrian struck in the commotion, were killed.
One person, believed to be the driver of the speeding white car, was taken into custody, police said.
Images from the scene showed a white sedan lying completely on the sidewalk, with its front grill smashed out. Rubble covered the scene, which was cordoned off with yellow caution tape as passersby gathered behind to see the response.
