Car catches fire after accident in Brooklyn, man loses life – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – One person was killed and another seriously injured in a car accident that left their car on fire in Brooklyn, New York City Police announced.

According to authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday, around 3:23 a.m., when police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call about a collision at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue Y Rochester Avenue.

Upon arrival, they found two men, the driver and a 35-year-old passenger, inside the vehicle engulfed in flames that were later extinguished by the city’s Fire Department.

The emergency medical services arrived at the scene of the spectacular accident and declared the driver dead. The 35-year-old passenger was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad determined that the driver, who has not been identified, was driving a 2017 Maserati Ghibli, heading west on Atlantic Avenue, apparently with excessive speed and lost control of the vehicle.

The car rolled onto the sidewalk, collided with a pillar supporting the LIRR train track, and caught fire.

The investigation into what happened is ongoing.
