The “perseids” meteors are small particles of dust that strike the earth’s atmosphere at a speed of 60 kilometers per second, and evaporate as a result of friction with the air at an altitude of about 100 kilometers, leaving a thread of light called the “meteor”.
The reason for the occurrence of meteor showers in general is that the earth, during its orbit around the sun, enters the path of ancient comets. When these remnants enter the Earth’s atmosphere, they burn in the upper layers of the atmosphere, causing the phenomenon of meteor showers.
