The Vice Minister of Transportation, Nelson Reyes, confirmed that during this Easter holiday period, the number of people caught drunk driving all types of vehicles throughout El Salvador increased.
The official said that efforts have been duplicated to guarantee safe mobility on all the country’s roads, which is why this Friday alone they took 17 dangerous drivers off the road. “The controls do not stop and this day we will continue with the deployment of our human talent on a national scale so that you can enjoy your weekend in complete safety,” he explained.
“During the course of Friday, 9 people were arrested for the crime of dangerous driving, to which were added the rest of those captured in the operations that were deployed at night and early this Saturday,” he explained.
“This is part of the efforts we are making to keep people who make the poor decision to drive under the influence at bay. We do this constantly throughout the year, which is evident in the increase of more than 100% in the number of anti-doping tests and in the number of dangerous drivers that we have arrested, which has increased by 40%,” said Reyes.
“This Easter alone we have had a 50% increase in the total number of detainees, we are going to remain deployed these last days of vacation. This is an effort that is carried out with the coordination of different State institutions,” insisted the head of the Vice Ministry of Transportation.
“Last week we saw how 18 people (dangerous drivers) were arrested in a single night. “We are going to continue with this type of behavior in which irresponsible drivers put their own lives and those of others at risk,” he added.
On the other hand, he said that they will keep teams deployed with traffic facilitation devices and the MOP road assistance service will assist you, you just have to call 2510-0199 and attention will be provided throughout the national territory.
