In a publication of the Colombian newspaper El Espectador, the arrest of Ramón Rodríguez Guerrero, an alleged spy in the service of the Nicolás Maduro regime in Bogotá, was announced.
According to El Espectador, Colombian military intelligence “had been tracking him for months” and on Friday, June 26 at night, he was arrested in the vicinity of the Siete de Agosto neighborhood of Bogotá.
The subject will initially be charged with crimes of false public document and migrant smuggling, “but his story could go far beyond those crimes,” warns the note published in The viewer.
Colombian Military Intelligence began the search motivated by the alleged meetings that Rodríguez Guerrero held at his home with other Venezuelans.
According to the information published by the Colombian media, these meetings were, for the most part, with the military who deserted the Nicolás Maduro regime and were in Colombia in irregular conditions.
According to the preliminary information that Ramón Rodríguez Guerrero provided to Intelligence, it was false. According to the alleged spy, he delivered carts of hot dogs to Venezuelans for work in Bogotá.
The authorities indicated that what was striking was the continuous meetings with the military, alleged deserters from the ranks of the FANB, in the service of Nicolás Maduro. Military, which according to the publication have become a headache for both the interim government of Juan Guaidó and that of Iván Duque.
Rodríguez, in addition, would be the administrator of the Instagram account resist.ve.col, which posts opposition messages.
It transpires in the publication of El Espectador that the spy is the brother of a leader of Chavismo and himself, close to Maduro.
According to this newspaper, Ramón Rodríguez Guerrero took out an original Colombian ID, but with false data. Then a Colombian passport, with which he frequently traveled to Panama.
The registrar that gave the ID to Rodríguez, by the way, was arrested in 2017 for delivering more than 35 of these documents to foreigners, including an Israeli wanted for drug trafficking, the website Caraota Digital published.
The newspaper adds that “according to military intelligence documents, his connections would not be only with the Maduro government but with the ELN guerrilla.”
These contacts would be in Apure, where the Colombian guerrillas roam and where the supposed relatives related to Chavismo live.
“That data, however, is still under investigation,” concludes the Bogota newspaper.
