Mexico City /
The Captains of Mexico City fought a tough battle and they came from behind to tighten the game until the final seconds, but fell to the Birmingham Squadron by a score of 109-107.
For the first half, Captains and Vipers split the score. The first quarter was in favor of Birmingham by 31-23 and the second for Capitanes by 51-55.
During the second part, Capitanes failed to stay with the lead and closed the third quarter with an 82-78 to end the last period by 109-107, despite the fact that they even tied the game by 107 points per side, but it was insufficient.
“(We have) mixed feelings because we fought the whole game and lost in the last second,” acknowledged Ramón Díaz, coach of the capital team, at the end of the match.
“We must highlight the work of our rival, today we find a very different team even in the first game, with three players from their NBA team who have given them more physical and athletic play. Capitanes had good moments today in defense and attack and if we analyze it, I believe that we continue on the right path and building what we want to be in the future ”, the Spanish coach highlighted.
Alfonzo McKinnie led the Capitanes attack with 23 points, 10 rebounds and one assist; closely followed by Matt Mooney, who closed the night with 20 points, six rebounds and four assists; Tyler Davis had 19 points, 11 rebounds and two assists.
For the Birmingham Squadron, the best man was Jaxson Hayes with 30 points, 10 rebounds and one assist, accompanied by Jared Harper (23-4-3) and Jose Alvarado (19-5-6).
Capitanes will travel to North Carolina to face Greensboro Swarm on December 10 at 8:00 pm, in their penultimate engagement in this Showcase Cup.
