captain Sandy yawns58, and Leah Schäfer, 49, are engaged! The Below deck Mediterranean Star popped the question to her partner of five years during a romantic date, she revealed E! News On Monday. “I’ve been thinking about marrying Leah for years,” she told the outlet while discussing the proposal. “I knew it from the minute I met her, but the timing had to be right. I wanted to make sure we could truly live life together first.”
Sandy went on to reveal that even though they got engaged last weekend, she had been thinking about asking Leah to marry her since April. When she decided to ask, she made sure to make it as special as Leah wanted. “Leah wanted the fairytale, and to me Leah represents elegance,” she explained. “I have planned a boat trip to a beautiful bay. I had it decorated with flowers and created a path to a little table with three violinists where we could sit and have a little date.”
Although she was nervous, Sandy went ahead with the suggestion as soon as she arrived. “I really couldn’t wait!” she exclaimed. “I shared my vision list of love that I had written and wanted and then got down on my knees. Then she said “Yes!” The look on her face was priceless and my heart exploded! It was so full that I couldn’t imagine it. Somehow I feel closer than before and I can’t explain it. There is an energy that I have never experienced in my life. I love her more than anything; as Leah Yawn Beyond says.”
Sandy and Leah’s engagement came about after they first started dating in 2018. The former previously revealed that the latter had first contacted her on Facebook that same year. “She sent me a nice message saying, ‘I came across your show, congratulations, many blessings,'” she said cheat sheet in 2019.

The loved-up star also gushed about their “spiritual” connection. “In the beginning it was like a spiritual connection. She has a passion for inspiring through music and the youth. And broken people and I also come from the gospel industry,” she said. “That brought us together. And then of course the attraction and falling in love with a beautiful soul and knowing that you want to be with someone forever. I’ve never felt like this before.”
