From Seville to the world singing “Queen”. The band “Captain Mercury” made the audience at their concert in Piedras Blancas vibrate yesterday. More than 500 performances behind them support them, inside and outside Spain, since they formed as a band in 2015. Rafael Arenas, voice and pianist of the group, assures that he is privileged to be able to dedicate himself to this. “I started playing the piano after watching videos of Freddie Mercury, and from there everything flowed by itself. Obviously I am a great fan of the group and I consider myself privileged for what I do”, he tells of the beginning of a passion that has ended up becoming his livelihood.
The repertoire they play, as could be verified last night, in the second of the festivals of the Castrillón festivities, is for everyone. “We usually bring eight songs, the best-known ones, and people enjoy it a lot, they sing them with you… playing Queen is a winning option wherever you go”, agree the members of this tribute band to the mythical “Queen”.
Although they acknowledged having visited Asturias on some previous occasion, they had never had the opportunity to play in the Principality. “We come to the Castrillón festivities with a great desire to enjoy and make those who come enjoy themselves,” they announced at the beginning of the night in the Plaza de Europa, with a full house this Saturday night.
“Captain Mercury” is currently on tour. “The summer months are always quite busy. We have between 25 and 30 dates, also for us as a tribute band the strong point is the live shows, so we take great care of them. A good staging, several costume changes… we create a good show and that people go home with the feeling of having seen the original ‘Queen'”, confesses Rafael Arenas, who is the voice and pianist in the group’s live performances.
Among their successes when they perform at popular festivals and other venues in Spain, they acknowledge that one of the ones they like the most is “Bohemian Rhapsody” because “it has a great impact on the public. They also triumph, as was seen last night, “We are the champions ” or “Radio Gaga”. Arenas acknowledges “that the entire ‘Queen’ repertoire is very well received in general”. And Castrillón was no exception.
The festivities in the council continue today, Sunday, with the opening of the medieval market (Calle Pablo Iglesias) at 11:00 am and the popular cycling tour from Plaza de Europa, at the same time. Today the children’s amusement park will also continue from 12:00 noon in the parking lot of the municipal swimming pool and an exhibition of old photos in Plaza Europa. The shooting with a rubber band in Parque de la Libertad is another attraction, along with the street theater show by “La Caracola” at 12:30 pm.
After the futsal marathon, at 7:00 p.m., and the “holi party”, at 7:30 p.m., in the Plaza de Europa, the third of the festivals will arrive. At 10:00 pm, there will be a performance by the “Panorama” orchestra and at 11:30 pm, the tribute to “Pink Floyd”, by “Púlsar to Floyd”. The second showing of “Panorama” will be after midnight.
