Since 2009, the crew around William Chaos has set sail to embark on crazy adventures. Round ten of the musical at the Landgraf-Ludwigs-Gymnasium Gießen went on stage.
Pour. Round ten for the musical about the lovable and slightly chaotic Captain Chaos at the Landgraf-Ludwigs-Gymnasium (LLG) – this time the motto was “How it all began”.
Since 2009 and with the exception of the last two years, the crew around William Chaos has set sail once a year in order to survive the craziest adventures. He has already had nine wild adventures behind him, so it was time to bring the background to the stage that made young William Captain Chaos. And so the music teacher Johannes Adamietz wrote and composed the prelude to all earlier chaos stories, because what big film producers like George Lucas can do on a large scale with their »Star Wars epic«, the lower school choir can also do within the scope of its possibilities, which have developed over the course of the have increased remarkably over the past twelve years.
Video recordings and all sorts of technical tricks were used very professionally, which amazed the audience. The technical working group of the school was responsible for this, which implemented the ideas of the play with a great deal of creativity.
The result was a funny music revue that seamlessly fit into the previous Chaos productions and incorporated some charming film and music quotes, including from »Star Wars«. There was an amazing twist towards the end, a dead man and a lot of humour. In addition, at the end of the day, the audience knew a few more nautical expressions than before. After all, William was initially quite a landlubber with a great penchant for seafaring – coupled with a great deal of ignorance. He was unfamiliar with the crew’s threads and often misunderstood. The term »boarding« quickly became »gender«, much to the amusement of the viewers. The small but well-placed digs at corona restrictions or small subtleties at school were particularly well received.
Under the experienced direction of Adamietz, who once again successfully demonstrated his lyrical and musical sensitivity, the students in grades five to seven developed considerable acting and singing skills, including individual vocal solo parts. Martin Ballmeier was again responsible for the musical part on the grand piano, who accompanied the choir with feeling and was always ready when it came to bridging a break, be it intended or not.
Adamietz and Ballmeier are a well-rehearsed team and rightly received thunderous applause at the premiere. The around 55 students in the lower school choir had been preparing for their performance since the autumn holidays of 2021 and had been practicing for it every Friday afternoon. »The rehearsals were always outside in the schoolyard, no matter what the weather. That was really brave of them,” praised the choirmaster.
In order to get the musical off the ground, you need many other people in addition to the choir, who all made their contribution. A total of around 70 students, alumni and friends were involved in the production. Antje Mühlhans acknowledged this in her short speech after the first performance. She particularly thanked Prof. Martin Buhmann and Barbara Durstewitz-Herrmann from the school’s support association. These two co-founded the association around ten years ago. Buhmann was chairman, Durstewitz-Herrmann cashier. “Over the years, the club has made a turnover of 130,000 euros,” said Adamietz. These two founding members have now passed on their positions and received a long round of applause from the audience for their commitment.
