Captain America Civil War: Team Cap ‘or Team Iron Man … Only Black Widow got it right

Presented as a traitor, Natasha Romanoff is ultimately the one who arguably made the best choices in Captain America: Civil War.

The events of Captain America : Civil War are far from playing in favor of the Avengers in Infinity War. For good reason, it was a completely divided group that faced Thanos, which undoubtedly reduced their chances of victory all the more. This third installment of the Captain America saga indeed pitted the heroes in two very distinct teams with on one side the pro Tony Stark and on the other the pro Steve Rogers. It has also been criticized Black Widow for navigating between the two, first siding with Iron Man before betraying him to help Captain America. Yet of all the heroes, she is arguably the one who made the most logical decisions.

At the center of the conflict of Captain America : Civil War we find the Sokovia and Bucky Barnes chords. The first aroused tensions while the second exacerbated them. In fact, Tony Stark was among those in favor of signing the agreements, still reeling at his realization of the consequences of the battle against Ultron. This was also the case with Natasha Romanoff, who felt that this engagement with the government above all allowed the Avengers to remain a team. This is an argument she makes to Steve by telling him that what matters is to stay together, and not the way they stay together. She therefore did not perceive the agreements as a brake or a finality., but rather as a necessary step so that their group is still active and can continue to protect the world.

However, that didn’t stop her from immobilizing Black Panther so Team Cap could escape, as a few minutes earlier they were fighting alongside Iron Man. His gesture was perceived as a betrayal, as much by the latter in the film as by the spectators. However, when you think about it, she did the right thing. Bucky Barnes was innocent and Steve was just trying to prevent him from being wrongly arrested. The real mistake of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers was ultimately not to listen to each other. Natasha, she knows her teammates. She knew Steve wouldn’t sign the Sokovia accords, just as she knew he wouldn’t have helped her childhood friend if he didn’t think he was completely innocent.

She also understood that the most important was not who was wrong or who was right, but that the Avengers remained united. As for revealing the conditions of Tony’s parents murder, that would have required a discussion between him and Steve, well before the film. But that is a whole different subject. Yes Avengers Endgame nevertheless succeeded in leading to a reconciliation between the different members of the team, some people were still forgotten. This is particularly the case of Sharon Carter alias Agent 13 who is still on the run since Captain America : Civil War, the Avengers not having helped her. An attitude which was undoubtedly perceived, and rightly so, as an abandonment and which perhaps even pushed her to become the famous Power Broker, which we often hear about in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
