MCU producer Nate Moore teases the story of Captain America: New World Order, which will see Sam Wilson take on General Thunderbolt Ross.
Captain America: New World Order producer Nate Moore teases an upcoming confrontation between Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross. As Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe draws to a close with the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on November 11, Marvel will take it one step further in its multiverse saga. One of the highly anticipated releases planned is Captain America: New World Order, which stars Anthony Mackie in his first film project as the new Captain America. Filming for the fourth Captain America film will begin in the spring of 2023 and will be released on May 3, 2024.
Captain America: New World Order will pick up after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and will follow Sam Wilson as he adjusts to his new role as Captain America. While the film is still in pre-production, it has been announced that Danny Ramirez and Carl Lumbly will reprise their limited series roles as Joaquin Torres and Isaiah Bradley respectively. They will be joined by Tim Blake Nelson as the boss, Shira Haas as Sabra and Harrison Ford as General “Thunderbolt” Ross, replacing the late William Hurt. Ford’s addition to the MCU is incredible for the franchise, and now Moore is giving one of the first glimpses of his role in Captain America: New World Order.
Looks like Thunderbolt Ross might be causing the new Captain America some trouble. In a recent interview with Collider, Moore teases the conflict between the general and Sam Wilson, reminding everyone that Ross threw Sam in jail at the end of Captain America: Civil War. Check out Moore’s full quote below:
“Well look, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, he’s bringing his team to play. It’s no secret that Samuel Sterns is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is great because Tim Blake Nelson is the best. Harrison Ford plays General Thaddeus. “Thunderbolt” Ross and sees Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross, who, if you remember, threw him in jail at the end of the civil war for violating the Sokovia Accords. There will be natural sparks there, which I think will be really funny. “
What Thunderbolt Ross means for the story of Captain America 4
Longtime MCU fans and readers of Marvel Comics won’t be surprised that Ross clashes with Sam in the upcoming Captain America movie. The general first appeared as an antagonist in 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and was last seen in the MCU chasing Natasha Romanoff at the start of Black Widow in 2021. In the comics, Ross becomes the Red Hulk, so he can finally equal the Hulk in strength and spirit. What makes Ross’s inclusion in Captain America: New World Order so interesting is that Nelson’s leader, who has experience with gamma radiation experiments, has already been heralded as the villain. This could mean that Captain America: New World Order will include the Red Hulk origin story and Captain America will find himself fending off two villains.
Of course, Red Hulk has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel. It is possible that Thunderbolt Ross’s fight with Sam in Captain America: New World Order is still tied to the general’s work in Civil War and that Sam will once again have to overcome being an unauthorized superhero. However, Ford is expected to take on the role of Thunderbolts, so the Red Hulk’s arrival looks imminent. Marvel fans will need to keep an eye out for more news as the MCU’s multiverse saga progresses.
