A fourth “Captain America” film is in development at Marvel Studios. The feature film will bring Anthony Mackie back into the shoes of the Captain, in a new story through which he will have to get used to his new status.
The Falcon becomes Captain America
Series Falcon and the Winter Soldier just concluded on Disney +. The opportunity for Malcolm Spellman, the showrunner, to stage the Metamorphosis of Falcon into Captain America. In the final episode, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) finally accepts Steve Rogers’ legacy and takes on the heavy responsibility of becoming the new Captain America. As in the comics, he wears a Falcon costume, but in the colors of the star spangled banner. Likewise, he still uses his wings, but also uses Steve Rogers’ Vibranium shield. While it is rumored that a season 2 of Falcon and the Winter Soldier would possibly be possible, Marvel Studios is also developing another project: Captain America 4.
Captain America 4 : Falcon gains in rank
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios is currently developing a movie Captain America 4. Logically, the feature film will focus on Sam Wilson who recently became Captain America. This will be the first time Anthony Mackie will have his own movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). At the moment nothing is known about the story, but chances are the film follows the plot of Falcon and the Winter Soldier and thus sees the returns of Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), US Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Agent Carter (Emily VanCamp). Thus, this will be an opportunity for Malcolm Spellman to develop his pending intrigues: the transformation of John Walker into a US Agent, the actions of Sharon Carter as a Power Broker, or even the imprisonment of Zemo in the Raft.
This solo film will be written by Malcolm Spellman and screenwriter Dalan Musson. There are no further details regarding the plot, the cast, or even a possible release date. This Captain America 4 could also be a way to bring Steve Rogers back to center stage. It has indeed been a while since many reports have claimed that Chris Evans is going to reprise his role in the MCU, despite his farewell at the end ofAvengers : Endgame. Especially since the character is regularly mentioned in Falcon and the Winter Soldier and would currently be on the Moon. Normally, given Marvel Studios’ schedule over the next few years, Captain America 4 should not see the light of day before 2023.
