It’s a real success story that takes place in Volstroff, near Thionville! After earning its fifth star in April 2022, the Capfun Mirabelle campsite, run for two years by Éric de Marville, this year’s recipient of the bronze tourism medal, will become, in 2023, the very first campsite to be stamped with the MOSL Quality label. Yet another distinction for this site whose history dates back to the 1970s. It owes its origin to the Asco Safe company, from Hagondange, now Ascometal, which had bought 23 hectares of land to offer allotments and a leisure center around the artificial pond. In 1986, change of destination, the place is transformed into a campsite managed by an association. In 1992, Denis de Marville – the father of the current director, Eric de Marville – took over and developed it. The outdoor swimming pool, minigolf and the first mobile homes are installed. In 2007, the campsite had twenty-five mobile homes which were beginning to take over from caravans and tents. The following years were marked by financial difficulties. The association can no longer invest and leaves the reins to the specialist Capfun, in 2017. The revolution begins and accelerates.

A turnover multiplied by 6

In just six years, Capfun has invested 7 million euros in Volstroff and created a new generation 5* campsite ideally located between Metz and Luxembourg. As a result, the turnover is multiplied by six. “Get together with the family at the Amnéville zoo, which is one of the most beautiful zoos in Europe, at the Walygator amusement park, indicates the campsite website. You are rather sporty, discover the region by mountain bike or canoe-kayak. A 25-minute drive away, the city of Metz has 41 listed monuments and 58 listed monuments as well as 3 listed sites and 3 sites listed as Historic Monuments… If you want to relax, go to the Saint-Eloy d ‘Amnéville known for their analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. For the 36-year-old director, who is spending his 22nd season at Volstroff, “clients today are looking for places that are more natural, less crowded. No more attraction for the ultra-touristy summer area! These customers, precisely. Who are they ? At 70%, they are French. They come mainly from Alsace, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, the Paris region, Burgundy and even Brittany. Foreigners are mostly Dutch and Belgian. As for the people of Lorraine, “they mainly come for short stays in low season. »

Nearly a thousand beds

Over the years, the Capfun Mirabelle campsite has established itself as a destination of choice for families, with its heated swimming pool under an openable dome, its paddling pool for the little ones, its three Aquatube slides, its Spacebowl slide, its bouncy castles . Nature lovers benefit from the calm of the beautiful 5-hectare pond, reserved for fishing and aquatic activities. The site has 214 mobile homes and almost a thousand beds. Attic of great luxury, they have TV, dishwasher and sometimes even a master suite and two bathrooms. Some can accommodate up to twelve people and have…air conditioning.
