Cape of 100,000 infections exceeded in Belgium

Belgium has passed the milestone of 100,000 coronavirus infections. This is evident from the preliminary data on the online dashboard of health institute Sciensano on Sunday morning.

Compared to Saturday’s figures, 1,099 new infections have been registered. That brings the total number in Belgium to 100,748 infections.

Between 10 and 16 September, an average of 1,107 infections per day was added. That equates to an increase of 65.2 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.

Between 12 and 18 September, an average of 44 hospitalizations per day were also added. Since the beginning of the epidemic 19,581 admissions to hospital have already been counted.

The number of deaths remained relatively stable, averaging 2.7 per day between September 10 and 16. In the meantime, 9,944 people have died in our country as a result of an infection.

Between September 3 and 16, the infection rate was 108.3 per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 97 percent.

A total of 232,363 tests were conducted between September 10 and 16. The positivity ratio in that period was 3.6 percent.
