Capcom cancels fan-made Resident Evil remake

The creators of the project claimed that the studio decided to cancel the game out of “pure malice”.

A Capcom canceled last week the remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica on the eve of the launch of the title. Made by fans, it had been highly anticipated by the public, as the studio was not very interested in producing it. Now, not even the public’s attempt to carry the game could come to fruition.

We are very sorry to inform you that they have canceled out of pure malice, as there are no signs that an official Code Veronica has been produced by them.

The cancellation was shared via Discord, which was used by the community to communicate the recreation of Resident Evil. One of the creators of the project wasted no time in blocking Capcom, stating that the cancellation was due to “pure malice” on the part of the studio, which has no plans to release the game.

“Unfortunately, Capcom has contacted us and canceled our projects. We are very sad to inform you that they have canceled out of pure malice, as there are no signs that an official Code Veronica has been produced by them,” stated the official post from Capcom. Game launch discord.

Unfortunately for the creators of Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Capcom claimed that the cancellation was due to the use of Capcom characters and their trademark: Resident Evil. The studio didn’t comment on whether it intends to continue the project or if fans can opt out of the title remake.

The official site blames Capcom

Proving that they were not satisfied with Capcom’s decision to cancel the creation of the community, the official website of the project contained only one sentence describing the matter: “Capcom has decided to cancel the project,” the official website reads. It is still active, but contains no further information on Resident Evil: Code Veronica.

The main version of the game was released in February 2000. At the time, the title was receiving versions for PlayStation 2, Dreamcast, Nintendo GameCube and Xbox 360. Later, Capcom tried to launch the title for other versions of the Sony console, as is the case of PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
