TILBURG –
A capacity problem is imminent in the hospitals in Brabant because of the outbreak of the corona virus. The pressure increases due to the admission of corona patients. “It will be more exciting,” says Bart Berden, chairman of the board of the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Hospital in Tilburg, on Radio 1.

“We see in some places in Brabant that it is getting exciting. By relocating corona patients to other hospitals in the country, the pressure can be reduced again. But if this increases in several places in this volume, then we will really run into problems in terms of IC capacity, ”says Berden.
Peak not in sight yet
The administrators of the hospitals in Brabant discuss the situation on a daily basis. We are also working on emergency scenarios and we are looking into whether extra equipment can be kept at hand.
More than 20 new patients have been admitted to hospitals in Brabant in the past 24 hours, reports Berden. “The peak is not yet in sight. There are more than the day before and certainly more than last weekend. ” Later today, RIVM will publish new figures on the number of registered infections.
Shortage of testing
According to the CEO of the Tilburg hospital, there is also a shortage of tests that test whether someone is infected with the corona virus. “We can already see that we have a relatively shortage of tests in Brabant. As a result, we may no longer be able to test our employees, because we prefer patients. ”
Thursday afternoon there will be another crisis meeting in The Hague. The cabinet meets at one o’clock to discuss the situation and additional measures. A press conference is planned after the crisis meeting. Omroep Brabant broadcasts this live on app, site, Facebook and television.
