Canvas, a stand with AirPlay 2 speakers for LG OLED TVs

Canvas is a new product looking for funding on Indiegogo which is intended for the owners of certain OLED TVs designed by LG. If you have a product sold from 2016, in the Series B or Series C and in 55 or 65 inches, you can add this accessory which will serve both as a floor or wall mount and as an audio system with its four built-in speakers.

Under the colorful grid of the Canvas, there are two pairs of speakers, each with a module for bass and another for treble. OLED TVs are very thin, but this support is significantly thicker, an important condition for providing good sound volume. The designers of the product thus promise a much better sound quality than that generated by the television alone, which is quite easy.

More ambitious, they even promise a quality similar to dedicated speakers, but in a reduced footprint. We will have to wait for the tests to find out what it really is, but we can note that the Canvas is content with stereo and does not try to create a 5.1 sound like the majority of sound bars. It may sound better in stereo, but the experience will not necessarily be as good for series and films, especially for hearing the voices traditionally associated with the center speaker.

The Canvas is connected to the TV via an HDMI ARC cable, but it is also an independent product, compatible with AirPlay 2 and Chromecast. A discreet housing is even provided to place an Apple TV or another small TV box. The whole is very simple, with just a digital indicator for the volume visible on the front. Note that you can use the device with a TV from another brand, but you will lose perfect visual integration.

If you are interested in the project, you can pre-order a copy from around 1095 € with shipping costs to France, for a 55-inch TV. Count about 100 € more for the 65 inch version, and as an option, you can add 185 € for a wall mount. All of this needs to be shipped in the fall and the designers of the Canvas insist that their product is almost finalized and ready for production.
