The Federal Council today decided on further measures to combat the corona epidemic. The guidelines aim in the same direction as the measures decided by the government council last Tuesday. The risk of transmission in places with an increased risk of infection is to be reduced and the further spread of the coronavirus is thus contained. The government council supports this common objective of all authorities and will consistently implement the measures.
The package of measures decided by the government council on December 8th is partly obsolete due to the new federal regulations. In some points, the requirements of the Canton of Zurich go further than the new federal regulations.
The canton goes further than the federal government with its restriction to 10 people when people gather in public spaces and with the 2-household rule in restaurants. Take-aways must also close at 10 p.m. In addition, all publicly accessible facilities in the canton of Zurich must remain closed from 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Public performances that cause crowds are prohibited. In the canton of Zurich, casinos and erotic shops must also remain closed. Prostitution is forbidden. As planned, these regulations will remain in force until January 10, 2021.
The government council is constantly analyzing the situation together with its special Covid-19 staff. If the number of cases and the number of hospitalizations cannot be reduced significantly, further measures will be ordered. The government council thanks the people of Zurich for their discipline in the implementation of protective measures and calls for them to consistently comply with the applicable protective regulations and hygiene measures and avoid personal contact, especially with regard to the festive season.
