A four-year-old boy fell into a sewer in Wil (SG) on Sunday. The rainwater washed it down an underground pipe, but firefighters were able to get it out through a subsequent sewer. The little one was hospitalized in critical condition.
The accident occurred around 4:45 p.m. in a square in the town that was often flooded during heavy rainfall, the St. Welsh police said on Sunday. For this reason, an evacuation sewer was built on the edge of the square. With heavy rains on Sunday, the opening was no longer visible. In addition, the force of the water had moved the cover.
The child was carried away by the waves. The firefighters were able to get him out of the 70-centimeter-diameter pipe four meters away, thanks to another sewer. They reduced the flow of water with planks. The boy, seriously injured, was helicoptered to a hospital.
