“The Council of State is concerned about this situation. He undertakes to make every effort to resolve the problem and find solutions in collaboration with the Confederation, from which he expects support and clear directives, in order to support the municipalities which are responsible for the distribution of drinking water. ” , he said on Monday.
The presence of chlorothalonil metabolites mainly affects the Broye, Lac, Singine, Sarine and southern Glâne regions.
The municipalities concerned, as water distributors, were informed of the results of the analyzes. According to current guidelines, they now have two years to comply.
Of the 381 samples analyzed, 221 (58%) were found to be compliant and 160 (42%) were found to be non-compliant. However, the results are not representative of the rate of metabolites of chlorothalonil which is in the drinking water which leaves the tap of each commune: this one can come from a mixture of several resources which vary according to the availability in water linked to climatic conditions.
Chlorothalonil is an active substance accepted since the 1970s in plant protection products as a fungicide. It has been used mainly in the cultivation of cereals, vegetables, vines or ornamental plants.
