The Brienz Rothornbahn needs to be renovated. Now the Bernese Great Council is to talk about a loan of six million Swiss francs.
The government council is applying to the City Council for a loan of six million Swiss francs for the conversion and refurbishment of the depot and the administration building of the Brienz Rothorn Bahn AG (BRB). This is announced by the Bern government.
The canton’s net expenditures amount to four million francs, with the Bernese municipalities contributing two million francs.
culturally significant
“The BRB has been operating a unique cog railway with culturally and historically significant steam operation for 130 years,” says the short message from the government council. The building complex at the valley station in Brienz, consisting of an administration building, workshop, depot with machine hall and wagon shed from the 1970s, is outdated and needs to be renovated. BRB cannot finance the necessary investments from its own resources. You have therefore submitted an application for a cantonal contribution.
The loan is subject to an optional referendum. (htr/ua)
