The Free Waldorf School in Heidelberg accommodates very special guests during the Easter holidays: music-loving young people from all over Germany and other European countries are accommodated there to make music together. This is made possible by “Cantare” – a choir conference that has been organized by young music enthusiasts on a voluntary basis since 2010.
Participants from all over Germany and Europe
In 2023 the conference will take place under the motto “Cantare – Vivaldi. geilo And you!” instead. Around 50 participants gather in the premises of the Heidelberg Waldorf School, with Lina Goldbach, project organizer and Salome Niedecken, artistic director of Cantare.
The musicians come from all over the world, Germany’s north is represented by Kiel, the south with participants from Lake Constance. But the border is not set in Germany, singers from Norway, Spain, Israel and Ukraine expand the cultural field. The age range is from 14 to 35 years.
Music without barriers
The special feature of the project is above all its openness, for example no audition is necessary for the choir, the only condition is the desire for music. Only with the orchestra there is the requirement that you are already advanced with the instrument.
Music will be played together for a total of ten days, and there is no question of an obligation for the coming years. Two concerts form the conclusion before returning to everyday life. The concept seems to be well received, with participants who have already taken part 14 times.
Colorful tones
On the one hand Antonio Vivaldi is being rehearsed GloriaOla Gjeilos provides the contrast Song of the Universal. In line with this, a string orchestra was also set up this year, with the aim being to create a musical bridge.
The result of this project can be heard on Friday, April 14 at 6 p.m. in the Johanneskirche in Mannheim and on Saturday, April 15 at 6 p.m. in the Christuskirche in Oftersheim.
