Cantabria continues to touch the incidence of covid that will lead Health to recover restrictions

Cantabria has been repeating for weeks the dance of a few steps forward followed by a few steps back with the covid, although touching the limits that Health will look at with a magnifying glass to recover some restrictions. In the last hours (the Administration provides the data closed at midnight on Sunday) they have registered 40 coronavirus infections in the region, a figure well below that of previous days – as always happens with the data that are known on Mondays – and no new deaths have been recorded. But one more person is admitted to the Valdecilla ICU (there are 19) while the number of hospitalized patients also decreases, which is 83.

In addition, the dance continues when it comes to cumulative incidence. If the information on Saturday – it reached 75 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days – suggested that there will soon be consequences, today this parameter has fallen back to 71 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, so again it remains a very slight margin before going over the red line set by the regional government to once again restrict mobility, hours and capacity in the hotel and catering establishments. However, the incidence in 14 days rises from 129 positives to 134, and experts do not doubt that in the coming days there will be an escalation of cases, which will have increased due to the ‘extra’ contacts that have occurred this holy Week.

These figures, however, are still far from those recorded by neighboring autonomous communities. The 14-day cumulative incidence in the Basque Country, for example, is found in 326 cases, well over double what is recorded in Cantabria.

1,189 active cases in Cantabria

With the latest data released by Health, in the region there are currently 1,189 active cases of covid-19, of which 1,106 affected are in home quarantine. Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 27,527 positives have been detected, of which 25,789 have been cured (94%). The level of positivity in Cantabria is 5.5%, very slightly above what the WHO (World Health Organization) considers the border from which this rate should start to worry.

Valdecilla continues to be the hospital that attends the most covid patients, with 54. They are followed by Sierrallana (with 14) and Laredo (with 12). And the Tres Mares de Reinosa hospital, which went weeks without a single case, now has three patients with covid. These data reflect that hospital occupancy is at 5.8%, a percentage that is not yet worrying for the health system.
