Can’t convince me, just force / Article

Recently, government communication activities have focused on persuading those who are still in doubt but allow the vaccine to be vaccinated against Covid-19. So far, about 40% of the population in Latvia have completed the vaccination process. Since the beginning of the summer, there has been a significant slowdown in vaccination rates.

The LTV program “Panorama” contacted three people to find out what their argument is for not being able to get well.

There were doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccines

The first character of this story is Jānis. He is a sailor. The young person leads an active lifestyle, travels a lot. At the start of the pandemic, all the restrictions set by the government were observed, but when the possibility of vaccination arose, it was not used because it did not feel threatened. In addition, there were doubts about the effectiveness of the vaccines.

“I just decided to wait because those vaccines are still … there’s a lot of doubt about them. For their effectiveness. Now this new type … ”Jānis thinks.

Life has become easier after vaccination

However, he began to experience difficulties in participating in public life. Many measures are not available, frequent Covid tests are required. After talking to a distant relative, the man changed his mind.

“He explained to me that it is better to get vaccinated. I have great respect for this person. I listened to what he said and thought, “Let it go! I will do it”. And they also wanted to return to normal life a little more.

And so it is that after vaccination is easier. I want everyone here to deal with it sooner, so I did. What the government suggested to me. In principle, now recommended worldwide. You just want to return to a normal life sooner, ”admits Jānis.

If the choice is between vaccination and shooting, I choose shooting

Vasily is more categorical. He worked as an on-air engineer for television for almost a decade and is now a long-distance traveler. In his opinion, natural immunity should be enough to protect him from Covid-19. And he does not like that the government is forcing vaccinations.

“It simply came to our notice then. That it is your voluntary decision. But in reality there is no such right to choose. What’s going on now? We will fire you! It’s your decision, but if you don’t get vaccinated, you may stop working. It’s just a war, “says Vasily.

Asking if there was anything that could persuade him to get vaccinated against Covid-19, Vasily is critical.

“It will not be possible to convince me, I can only be forced. Just force it. Either vaccinated or, I don’t know, we’ll shoot you. And even then, I’d rather have me shot. Because it is a matter of principle and honor, ”emphasizes Vasilijs.

Rely on your immunity

Artūrs Ikvilds, the author of the public initiative “Vaccination should still be voluntary”, has similar reasons for not vaccinating. He is also a co-founder of the Law and Order party formed by Saeima deputy Aldis Gobzems, but submitted the initiative even before the party was founded.

Iwield believes that diet can improve immunity and that a vaccine against Covid-19 is therefore not needed.

He still does not believe that vaccines are effective.

“I would be convinced that if this vaccine were really effective, people would be able to understand it.

It is clear that people would use this beneficial medicine themselves, they would not have to be forced and tried to discriminate or intimidate in various ways in order to be forced to be vaccinated. ”

The heroes of the story were also asked what they thought of the new vaccination advertising campaign, which included a motivational video. Most of the men admitted that such videos do not address them.
