Canon to Launch Second Generation RF Lenses in 2024: Meet the High-Resolution Needs of Future EOS R Cameras

It has been five years since Canon started launching RF lenses in 2018. For the RF lenses that came out earlier, it is time to be updated. There are currently signs that Canon will start launching them in 2024. Second generation version of RF lens.

To break down the current Canon RF product line, there are the following 10 “older” RF lenses:

RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM
RF 50mm F1.2 L USM
RF 28-70mm F2 L USM
RF 35mm F1.8 Macro IS STM
RF 85mm F1.2 L USM
RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM
RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM
RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM
RF 85mm F1.2 L USM
RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM

In particular, the first four cameras were released at the same time as the EOS R. It has been five years since then. If we consider that future EOS R cameras (such as EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1) are likely to take the high-pixel route, it is indeed the right time. Update these old RF lenses so that they can meet the high-resolution needs of future EOS R cameras. Currently, foreign news points out that Canon will launch the second-generation version of RF lenses in the first half of 2024 at the earliest. It is speculated that it should be released with the release of the EOS R5 Mark II. Let us wait and see!
