Qualified no longer on K1 1000 meters, but on K2 1000 meters
To understand, you have to come back a few weeks earlier. The Gregorian set off for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Szeged (Hungary), in mid-May, with the aim of finishing in the top two of the K1 1,000-meter final, in order to obtain a quota. Objective fulfilled, Guillaume Burger finished second in the race and thought have won their ticket for the Games.
But the next day, the International Canoe Federation withdrew the sesame from him, justifying the act by an administrative error, France not being finally eligible to participate in this continental catch-up. Today, the French Federation of Canoeing and Paddle Sports is still in process with the International Federation and the IOC for the quota on the K1 1,000 meters.
But at the same time, the K2 1000 meters, composed of Étienne Hubert (CK Pays Sedanais) and Cyrille Carré (OCK Auxerre), bronze medalist at the 2019 world championships, benefited from a bonus thanks to this medal won at dawn. from Tokyo. However, to validate their selection, the duo had to win the Olympic selections and win a World Cup.
Having failed to meet these conditions, the cards were reshuffled and the boat overhauled, on the basis of the results of the Olympic selections. Guillaume Burger thus joins the crew with Étienne Hubert, thanks to his victory in the Olympic selections. The Bretillian kayaker, at 31, thus obtains his Olympic ticket and will compete on the K2 1000 meters!
