Apart from causing discomfort to the woman during the last few months of pregnancy, an extra large baby can cause problems during delivery for both mother and baby. The mother may need a C-Section to deliver the baby. Babies can be born with nerve damage from pressure on the shoulder during delivery.
C-Section (C-section)
C-section is an operation to deliver the baby through the mother’s abdomen. A woman who has poorly controlled diabetes has a higher chance of needing a cesarean section to deliver her baby. When a baby is delivered by cesarean section, it takes longer for the woman to recover from delivery.
High Blood Pressure (Preeclampsia)
When a pregnant woman has high blood pressure, protein in her urine, and frequent swelling of the fingers and toes that doesn’t go away, she may have preeclampsia. This is a serious problem that needs to be watched closely and taken seriously by a doctor. High blood pressure can harm a woman and her unborn baby.
