As part of the canine rabies vaccination campaign “Van Can 2023” and under the motto “For a Piura without canine rabies, Vaccinate your dog!”, the Regional Health Directorate of Piura and the Ministry of Health vaccinated more than 3,000 dogs from the districts of Piura, Castilla and Veintisirse de Octubre.
This was reported by the director of Diresa Piura, Eduardo Guerrero Amaya, who highlighted the participation of citizens in the development of the activity. “We have had active participation from citizens in the different points set up by the sector; today alone we have managed to vaccinate more than 3,000 pets belonging to three important districts in the region,” he said.
This activity aims to prevent the spread of the rabies virus, a zoonotic disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans, causing symptoms that include malaise, fever and headache.
The campaign was developed from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, where the Diresa Piura and the local governments installed four strategic points, located in the San José park in the district of Piura; the Luis Montero square in the district of Castilla; the San Martín civic park and the IV Stage park of the AH Los Algarrobos, the latter two belonging to the Twenty-sixth of October district, with the purpose of vaccinating existing dogs.
The activity had the participation of Community Health Agents, health personnel from the Santa Julia, Tacalá, San José, Víctor Raúl, and Los Algarrobos health establishments, the Communications Office of the Diresa Piura and the involvement of district municipalities of Piura, Castilla and Veintisis de Octubre.
Guerrero Amaya urged citizens to continue participating in the different health campaigns carried out by Diresa Piura, as well as responsible pet ownership.
