Canet Celebrates Its Remarkable Athletes and Sports Community

As every year, the City honored the athletes who have worn the colors of Canet throughout the season.

After the Halle des sports Pierre-de-Coubertin in 2022, it was the Arlette-Franco swimming center which hosted this ceremony last Thursday. A guest of choice was present in the person of Henri Grange, former basketball international (seven French championship titles between 1954 and 1969 and three French Cups with AS Villeurbanne) and now a resident of Canet.

More than 180 athletes belonging to more than 30 associations in the municipality received the congratulations of Karine Pierson, deputy mayor for sports, and Stéphane Loda, mayor, for their excellent results, whether departmental, regional , national or international.

These results confirm that Canet is a sports town, equipped with top-notch equipment, labeled a “live and move” town, selected as a preparation center for the 2024 Olympic Games in sailing and swimming.

In addition to the athletes, the municipality also wanted to reward the presidents, board members and volunteers who work in the associations and who allow them to maintain and develop their activities.

Finally, two sportswomen were particularly and quite rightly honored for their act of courage, Alvina Montsarrat and Blandine Fessar, members of the association of Catalan bodyboarders and surfers who last month saved the lives of two people who drowned the beach of the Jetée.
