Las Vegas (USA), May 5 (EFE).- The light heavyweight champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA), the Russian Dmitry Bivol, confirmed this Thursday that the fight he will hold that Saturday against the Mexican Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez is the greatest challenge of his career.
“This is the maximum challenge for me, I want to win, these are great moments and I want to keep my belt,” the 31-year-old monarch said at a press conference regarding this Saturday’s battle at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Bivol boasts that he has never been beaten in his career with a record 19 wins, 11 of them on the fast track.
The boxer was not intimidated by his rival, the absolute super middleweight champion, with a record of 57 wins, 39 by knockout, two draws and one loss, who is considered the best pound-for-pound boxer today.
“Of course I respect ‘Canelo’, he is a great champion, but this is a great opportunity not only to keep my belt, but to test my skills against one of the best,” he reiterated.
Joining Bivol was his trainer, Gennadiy Mashyanov, who said that this fight will transcend time.
“I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be here, for facilitating everything to make it a night with a legendary fight. It’s been a long road to get here and we’re confident in training and really wanting to win.”
A few weeks ago Mashyanov warned Álvarez about the danger of his boxer and assured that he would surprise everyone.
“I don’t think he’s ever faced someone with the skill set that Dmitry has in the ring. I can’t give details, but Dmitry has the skills to fight and follow a plan; he is going to surprise them”, were his words.
In addition to the fact that Bivol will fight at his weight, he will try to take advantage of the fact that he is taller than ‘el Canelo’, he measures 1.83 meters, by 1.73 of the Mexican; without forgetting the power and precision that he has in his punch.
The Russian made his professional debut in 2014. His first six wins were on the fast track. In his career, one of his victories was against the Mexican Felipe Romero.
