Canelo Álvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga: fight card, time and where to watch live on TV

The Mexican boxer will appear at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to face the undefeated Puerto Rican.

Canelo Álvarez will defend his World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Organization (WBO) and World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight titles this Saturday when he faces Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Both will re-enact the old boxing rivalry: Mexico vs. Puerto Rico, in a super evening in which the Cuban Erislandy Lara will also fight against Danny García. We leave you with the complete details of the night, with the card, TV and time.

Canelo Alvarez and Edgar Berlanga finished the weigh-in ceremony with one more face-off and escalating the tension before the fight. The Mexican weighed in at 166.75 pounds and the Puerto Rican challenger at 167.5. Rehydration will begin and the undefeated Puerto Rican is expected to arrive ‘bigger’ for the fight.

The weigh-in of Canelo and Berlanga

Álvarez is no longer the undisputed super middleweight champion, following the decision of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to strip him of the title for not having accepted to fight the entity’s mandatory challenger, the Cuban William Scull.

The 34-year-old Mexican is coming off a UD win over fellow Mexican Jaime Munguía on May 4 at the T-Mobile Arena. He is the biggest draw in world boxing and there seems to be no one to challenge him at 168 pounds, although he will remain in that category and will only move up to 175 to have a rematch with Dmitry Bivol, one of the two boxers who could have beaten him.

Canelo has an impressive record of 61 wins, 39 of them by KO, 2 draws and 2 losses – against Floyd Mayweather by MD in 2013 and against Bivol by UD in 2022. It should be noted that his last four victories were by UD, with solidity and showing maturity and wisdom, but without a knockout. The last time he finished a fight before the limit was against Caleb Plant, in November 2021.

The Mexican will be presenting himself for the 22nd time commemorating a Mexican national holiday; whenever he can, he fights on the weekend of May 5, the Day of the Heroic Battle of Puebla, and the weekend of September 16, Mexico’s Independence Day.

Canelo Alvarez’s last fight

Berlanga will have before him the biggest challenge of his professional career. The Puerto Rican by adoption, was born in Brooklyn, but his parents are Puerto Ricans and he feels that way, he is undefeated in 22 fights, with 17 fast track finishes. But there is a peculiarity in that record: his first 16 wins were by KO, then he had 5 victories in which they went to the cards – all of them he won by UD -, and he only knocked out again in his last performance. It was against Padraig McCrory, in February 2024.
Berlanga has age in his favor, he is 7 years younger than Canelo, and 10 centimeters taller and with more reach. But he will face a living legend.
