Candy Dulfer notes that her back has grown together after years of playing the saxophone | Music

Candy Dulfer has a lot of back problems and that’s partly because she plays the saxophone, she says speaking to The password. To play the instrument, he has to bend his back, which caused the problems.

“Well, my back is rotten, partly from the sound,” says the 53-year-old saxophonist. “You can just hold a tenor sax as my father plays in front of you, it comes to you, so to speak. You lean towards a alto sax yourself.”

“Sometimes I think I walk very upright and I still see myself in a shop window with that neck forward. On the other hand, this is also moving, I have fully grown with my instrument.”

Dulfer has been playing the saxophone since he was five; his father Hans was already a successful saxophonist. Dulfer says in the conversation that she still doesn’t consider herself technically good. “I’ve never really learned anything, I play by ear. I’m starting to get better and better, because now I see it’s the whole picture. I play my heart out every day, not everyone does.”

Dulfer’s breakthrough came in the 1980s when she was asked to open for Madonna. She was then asked to collaborate with Prince, which she continued to do regularly until 2007. Their collaboration ended after an argument.
