“Candy-colored seahorse spotted by underwater photographer Alex Permyakov in Bali waters”

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Russian-born photographer Alex Permyakov came across a brightly colored seahorse while swimming in the waters of Bali, Indonesia.

Permyakov likened this dwarf seahorse, also known as Hippocampus bargibanti, to a piece of “candy”, due to its unique shape.

In an interview with CNN in Arabic, Permyakov noted that these creatures are “known for their small size, vibrant colors, and great camouflage capabilities.”

Their small bodies are often adorned with many fleshy bumps, and this helps them blend in between coral reefs and sea fans with great ease.

Speaking of this “extremely difficult to spot” animal, the photographer noted that “this particular species is often compared to candy or lollipops.”

This encouraged him to describe the seahorse, which he documented as “candy”, when he published the photos he took with his followers through his account on the “Instagram” platform.

Permyakov has always wanted to document a frontal shot of this bright creature, as he said: “I was lucky that the seahorse was directly facing my lens, so that was the right moment to press the button.”

The photographer began diving in 2015, and this opened the door for him to dive into the world of underwater photography in 2016.

Since then, Permyakov has made sure to bring his camera and photograph every dive.

Macro photography is one of his favorite types of photography, pointing out that there is no need for something dazzling in front of your lens, as in his opinion, it is enough to be patient and have good lighting to highlight this object in front of your camera lens.

The photographer believes that diving and underwater photography is a “way of life”, as they allow him to “communicate with the deep spirit of the ocean and share its magic with the world.”
