Peñaranda has finally had a miniature version of its summer Noche de Velas, one of the most spectacular bets of its cultural summer that this year has not been able to be celebrated with the same massive format on other occasions. That is why the act that tonight has carried out La Cantamora Association, which has been promoting this activity for six years, has been by surprise, to avoid crowds, and the candles have only illuminated the atrium of the Collegiate Church of Santa Ana, in the Plaza de los Duques de Avellaneda. But what is truly important on this occasion has been the sense with which it has been celebrated: as a tribute to the victims of the pandemic and as gratitude to the citizens that with their effort and behavior they have made it possible to overcome the most difficult moments. The act was also intended to manifest the wish that Candle Night can return in all its splendor next summer 2021.
Have you gone to sunset of this Wednesday, August 5 when the members of the Peñarandina cultural association have lit hundreds of small candles with which they have been adorned four “Wish trees” in which each light turned on “is a wish for hope and that everything will turn out well” as explained Yolanda Cob, coordinator of this activity. “And convey that next year we will return with great force and with great hope “
The candles have also drawn the word “We will be back” at the foot of the temple stairs, dotted with small lights. After the ignition, a minute of silence was observed in memory of all the victims of the coronavirus.
An endearing act in one of the most emblematic and majestic places in Peñaranda, as can be seen in the photographs provided by Manuel Lázaro that accompany this text.
