Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
A number of Factions in DPR submit a candidate to replace Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto in the seat of TNI Commander to President Joko Widodo. However, there are notes regarding the consideration of the internal aspirations of the military and society as well as issues of defense reform.
Previously, the names of the Army Chief of Staff General Andika Perkasa and the Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Yudo Margono were predicted to be Hadi’s successors.
The chairman of the PAN faction of the DPR RI, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, said his party supported whoever Jokowi would later choose as Commander in Chief. However, according to him, Jokowi must consider a number of factors before choosing a commander-in-chief candidate.
First, he said, Jokowi of course must “hear various inputs and aspirations that are specifically developing within the TNI and the community”.
In addition, Saleh also asked Jokowi to consider the rotation of the dimension that leads the TNI. If previously Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto came from the air force, then Jokowi could choose a commander-in-chief from the land or sea dimension.
“If it is possible that this has been led by the Commander of the Air Force, maybe now it can be handed over to those with other backgrounds, it could be the Army or the Navy,” said Saleh.
“So we ask for sea or land. Of course which of them is the most suitable, I think there are two. The first criterion is of course what the president needs,” he continued.
Then, according to Saleh, what Jokowi should consider in selecting the candidate for the TNI Commander is the defense reform in Indonesia. Including reform of the main weapons system (defense equipment) of the TNI.
“Secondly what the TNI needs in the context of carrying out Indonesian defense reform. So I think that’s all,” he said.
Similarly, NasDem Faction Deputy Chair Willy Aditya said his party did not question the names of the two candidates to replace Hadi Tjahjanto.
“Both (Andika and Yudo) are the nation’s best sons who deserve to lead the TNI institution. President Joko Widodo as the supreme commander has the prerogative to choose between the two,” Willy said in a written statement, Wednesday (16/6).
The member of Commission I of the DPR RI reminded that in the end, Jokowi had the authority to choose Hadi’s successor. “NasDem will certainly support the choice of whichever President he chooses, as a form of NasDem’s commitment as a party supporting the government,” said Willy.
Member of the DPR’s Commission I, the Golkar faction, Dave Laksono, also considered that Andika and Yudo were worthy candidates to replace Hadi.
“All candidates have the experience and knowledge to become TNI Commander, so whoever the president chooses is the best candidate, because all of them are tough knights that Indonesia has,” said Dave.
The stock exchange for Hadi’s replacement for the TNI Commander in Chief has begun to be discussed. The reason, Hadi will enter retirement next November.
Member of Commission I of the DPR RI, the PDI-P faction, Effendi Simbolon, stated that the candidates for the TNI Commander were narrowed down to two names, namely Andika and Yudo Margono.
