Argentina U-20 and Portugal U-20 will try to be the opponent of the U-20 Indonesia National Team in a mini tournament in Jakarta. The two countries are considered to be strong teams.
The mini tournament is planned after the U-20 Asian Cup. For information, the mini tournament will be different from the one that will be held on February 17-22.
Prior to the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup, a Mini Tournament will also be held in Jakarta with Fiji, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic as potential opponents. The idea for this mini tournament was raised by PSSI which then asked for help from the government through Kemenpora.
Since this is a series of the 2023 U-20 World Cup, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has agreed to this idea. So Amali advised the U-20 national team to invite stronger opponents as a test before appearing in the U-20 World Cup.
“We are preparing a mini-tournament, we have contacted several countries. I have already told Indra Sjafri the dream, I don’t know if Shin Tae-yong agrees or not,” said Amali at the Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta, Thursday (9/2/ 2023).
“We can take a strong national team so that the children (U-20 national team) can get a good atmosphere. If I am asked, I want to invite the Argentina U-20 team, it doesn’t qualify (U-20 World Cup), we invite just play,” he added.
Apart from Argentina, Amali also suggested the U-20 national team to invite Portugal. Just like Argentina, Portugal has also been confirmed not to qualify for the U-20 World Cup because it failed in the qualifying round.
Amali explained, PSSI Chairman Mochamad Iriawan had acquaintances at the Portuguese Embassy in Indonesia. For this reason, inviting Portugal to play in Indonesia is considered to have great potential.
“Last night I communicated with the Portuguese ambassador, I said to communicate with the federation so that they were also invited even though they did not qualify. Then we will also invite some,” said Amali.
“So if Argentina U-20 doesn’t qualify but is willing to play in a mini-tournament. This is good and it is our goal. So that the U-20 national team will also get an opponent after the U-20 Asian Cup,” he said.
